Role Overview
Ethos Publishing Consulting is seeking an experienced freelance Business Development Manager to help build a robust pipeline of prospective clients and support the growth of the business. This role is ideal for a commercially minded professional with strong publishing-sector experience, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to ethical and inclusive publishing.
Contract Details
· Freelance contract: 3 months
· Time commitment: 1 day per week
· Day rate: £400 per day
Key Responsibilities
· Build relationships with prospective clients across the publishing and research sectors.
· Raise the profile of Ethos Publishing Consulting with relevant organisations and networks.
· Conduct targeted outreach to prospective clients through email, online meetings and professional networking.
· Create qualified business leads and develop a strong pipeline of potential clients.
· Identify new business opportunities aligned with Ethos Publishing Consulting’s values and services.
· Meet agreed outreach and revenue targets.
· Provide regular updates to senior management on progress, opportunities and risks.
Experience and Skills
· Minimum of five years’ experience in a sales or business development role within the publishing sector.
· Experience working with publishers, societies and independent research organisations.
· Understanding of academic, educational, trade, B2B and/or B2C publishing; experience across multiple areas would be an advantage.
· Proven ability to build relationships, develop networks and convert opportunities into leads.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to learn quickly, work independently, use initiative and manage time effectively.
· A shared belief in the power of ethical and inclusive publishing.
